Every couple of months, I like to hop down to Playa Guiones, also know as Nosara Costa Rica to surf, visit friends, and for a change in scenery. This sleepy surf and yoga town was recently named one of the 20 best surf towns around the world by National Geographic, and much like the rest of Costa Rica, has become quite a popular tourist destination. Although the dirt road into Nosara can be a bit bumpy, once in town, you can spend as many days as you like relaxing, practicing yoga, surfing beautiful waves, and eating delicious food. And lucky me, I recently was able to pop down to Nosara to surf and spend quality time with two of my surf amigas who just so happened to plan surf trips during the same dates.
If you've been thinking about a vacation in Costa Rica or dreaming of visiting Nosara, check out my Nosara Costa Rica guide below!

Location:
Playa Guiones, often called Nosara, is located on the western, Pacific Ocean side of Costa Rica on the Nicoya Peninsula. Nosara is about 2.5 hours from Liberia International Airport (LIR) and about 1.5 hours to Tamarindo on the coastal road.
What to Do:
Nosara is a surf and yoga town - - there are plenty of surf schools and yoga retreats. Other activities include horseback riding, ATV tours, zip lining, visiting Ostional Wildlife Reserve to see the sea turtles lay eggs and hatch, and deep sea fishing.
For surf programs, I highly recommend Surf Simply and Nosara Family Surf.
For yoga retreats, check out Bodhi Tree and Nosara Yoga Institute.

Where and when to surf:
Playa Guiones is a beach break. There are the waves up and down the long stretch of beach, so you can walk as far as you wish to find a nice, uncrowded wave. Playa Guiones is exposed to swells coming from all directions, so it is rarely flat.
Best Tide: All tides.
Best Wind: Offshore, from the East.
Best Swell: All swells.
Ability: Beginner to Advanced
Season: For offshore winds all day, January – April. But there is surf year round.
Crowd Factor: Some peaks can get crowded, but there are plenty of waves to be found.
For surf programs, I highly recommend Surf Simply and Nosara Family Surf.
Where to Stay:

Olas Verdes

Moana Surf Resort

My last trip in Nosara, I stayed at Boheme via AirBnB. I totally was crushing on this interior design and I secretly wanted to stuff a couple of those cute throw pillows in my suitcase. 😍🙈 And this diptych of my sunset print “It’s Raining Sunshine” doesn’t look too bad either!
