Best of the Best Things to Do in Tamarindo, Costa Rica + Surrounding Area

November 30, 2018 2 min read

Dear Kristen #sunsetchaser,

You've shared some pretty awesome Costa Rica and Tamarindo tips, BUT I want to know the best of the best! When your family was in town last week, where did you take them in the Tamarindo area and what did y'all do? I know they got the insider, local experience, so spill the beans already!

Pura Vida,
Only the Best

OK, OK, you ready for it?!

Last week my Aunt, cousin, and cousin-in-law came to visit me in Tamarindo + celebrate Thanksgiving with Gidget and I. It was beyond special to me to celebrate this beautiful holiday with my family in tropical Pura Vidadise AND of course I had a blast showing them my favorite places here in the Tamarindo area. They only were in Tamarindo for two full days plus arrival + departure afternoon/morning, so I unfortunately didn't get to show them all of my favorite places, but I for sure showed them an awesome time (yep, I'm patting myself on the back 😉).

Best of the Best Things to Do in Tamarindo, Costa Rica + Surrounding Area

Day 1 (late afternoon arrival):

  • Sunset Happy Hour at El Chiringuito (great beach front bar + restaurant for drinks and appetizers)
  • Dinner at Falafel Bar (if love Middle Eastern food and/or have dietary restrictions (vegan/gluten free/ vegetarian), you'll love Falafel Bar!)
Day 2:
  • Breakfast at La Bodega (one of the best breakfast spots in town!)
  • Explore Tamarindo (beach and Main Street)
  • Late lunch at Lola's in Playa Avellanas (sure, the dirt road to Playa Avellanas may be a bit bumpy, but Playa Avellanas is one of my happy places with magical waves to surf and a fantastic beach front restaurant, Lola's! Consistently ranked as one of the top beaches in the WORLD 🙌🏻!)

  • Sunset at Playa Mansita in Hacienda Pinilla
  • Dinner at Bamboo Sushi Club (amazing sushi and rice bowls with great ambiance)

Day 3:
  • Late Breakfast at Surf Box in Playa Flamingo (oh I I wish Surf Box was in Tamarindo! Super fresh ingredients and delicious food!)
  • Explore the beach at Las Catalinas (fun fact, Las Catalinas made the cover of Travel+ Leisure's September 2018 issue!)

  • Late afternoon surf lesson with Eric at Salty Sols (Eric is hands down the BEST at surf lessons -- all my family and friends have taken lessons from Eric!)
  • Sunset photo shoot with yours truly at Cala Luna Boutique Hotel and on the beach in Playa Langosta(you didn't think I’d have family visit me without getting them in front of my camera?! Sunset last sure did show off for my cousin Justin and his wife Rachel on their last night in Tamarindo!)
  • Thanksgiving Dinner, Costa Rica style!
