The real insider insight to rainy season in Costa Rica

August 24, 2018 2 min read

Three words: pure sunset magic

If you're following me onInstagram (@sambatothesea) and the IG algorithm isn't hiding my posts from ya, then you've probably noticed that the sunsets this past week in Costa Rica have been sooooooooooo good! I'm talking about magical sunsets back-to-back-to-back-to-back...yes, as in multiple days in a row of out this world, jaw dropping sunsets.

And you want to know the "hard" part in all of this?  This week's sunsets are blending together in my head as one sunset highlight reel...OK, I’m really not complaining one bit! #sorrynotsorry because someone has to chase these sunset beauties!

So with all these back-to-back stunning sunsets, you may be wondering if there's a stimulant for these beauties. Two words: rainy season. Back in June, I shared with you what rainy season in Costa Rica really means and what to expect expect weather wise...BUT, I kinda held out on ya. My bad!

The Real Insider Insight to Rainy Season in Costa Rica

You see, rainy season in Costa Rica is always on Pura Vida time. Or in other words,
it is almost impossible to predict the rain a couple days out, nonetheless a couple hours before a planned activity!! So here is the real insider insight to rainy season here in Costa Rica:

  1. The weather app will tell you it’s raining outside when there isn't a rain drop in sight. 🤔
  2. Furthermore, the weather forecast during rainy season is rain every day, but it rarely rains every day + all day — it’s usually only a quick, passing storm. Except for maybe in September and October. Then it can rain and be gray all week, like my first trip to Costa Rica...but hey, rain and all, I still had one amazing surf trip!
  3. When it rains, it’s sooooo dramatic! Heavy rain drops, thunder booming right above and lightening striking across the sky...oh my!!!!
  4. And finally, those dramatic, quick moving rain storms set the stage for insanely magical sunsets just like this - - AND oh-so-perfect to capture the Boyle family in their happy place, the beach in Costa Rica, during their family photo session this past week!

As always, muchas gracias Mother Nature for your sunset shows — but you sure are giving me one heck of a hard time deciding which sunset photos to post first because they ALL are insanely beautiful!!
