  • What were you doing seven years ago? || #FelizFriday 10/19/18

Do you know what you were doing seven years ago today? What you were wearing and who you were talking to? I do!

Seven years ago I was on a week long surf trip in Costa Rica.

It was my first trip to this beautiful country, my first surf trip (I had only just taken my first surf lesson a couple months prior), and I was still a NYC corporate girl. Little did I know, this week long vacation full of surfing (well, a ton of wipeouts!!!) and pouring rain was going to lead me down a different life path. And a year later after that first trip, I was back on a plane to Costa Rica, this time to live full time in Tamarindo a month after quitting my job in NYC.

Fast forward six years later, I am still in awe and disbelief that my former NYC corporate girl self had the gusto to leave behind a well paying job for a life chock full of unknowns. Samba to the Sea has always been about following my dreams and living life to the fullest. What has resulted is being able to surf almost everyday when I'm in Costa Rica, chasing sunsets wherever I travel, and being able to make a living with one of my passions, photography.

But, it hasn’t been all beautiful waves and magical sunsets and that’s totally OK because that's life!

Life is messy, beautiful, hard, magical, crazy...you name it. Most importantly, one of the best things I've learned in the past seven years is that life is what I make of it! AND that's the same for you too! Or as I like to say, the grass is greener where you water it! Who knows where the next seven years will take me, but I sure am down to continue on this beautiful adventure!

There's nothing quite like being the captain of your own vessel, harnessing the power of the wind, gliding across the water, and going whichever course your heart desires. Especially after a glorious day sailing and coming in to dock during sunset over the marsh! Sunset over the marsh in Savannah, Georgia photographed by Kristen M.
