  • #FelizFriday isn't so #feliz when the President steals your land... || #FelizFriday 12/8/17

    December 08, 2017 2 min read

    Wow. Just, W-O-W. 99.9% of the time I keep my political beliefs to myself. But today, on this not so very #FelizFriday, the 0.1%, I need to speak up. In case you missed it in the news this week, President Trump just stole your land. OUR LAND.

    "In an illegal move, the President just reduced the size of Bears Ears and Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monuments [in Utah]. This is the largest elimination of protected land in American history."

    So what does this mean?

    States have historically sold off federal lands.

    "History shows that when the federal government grants, sells or otherwise gifts federal land to states, 70 percent of the land is sold to private interests, jeopardizing public access."

    "States have different rules for land management, and private lands are often not accessible to the general public, meaning the transfer of federal lands to private hands could impact outdoor activity and access."

    I don't know about you, but every time I visit a National Park, I'm blown away. Blown away by America's natural beauty and continuously amazed that we live in such a beautiful, diverse country. And it's our job to protect it. To protect Mother Nature from our own human folly - destroying nature's treasures with development.

    "We have fallen heirs to the most glorious heritage a people ever received, and each one must do his part if we wish to show that the nation is worthy of its good fortune."
    — Teddy Roosevelt
